We welcome you to Kalypso Rooms. We are a small family-run hotel, located in the middle of the village. You will find us at the small street above the stone steps opposite the main bus-station. Also there is an entrance to the hotel on the main road opposite the Daedalus & Ikaros Cave. Our double-building complex offers spotless clean rooms with bathroom, free Wi-Fi, fridge and air-conditioning. We also provide exclusive parking space for our guests just 80m from our entrance.

There are a few rooms with cooking facilities. The kitchen facilities are complete and all rooms have balconies overlooking the Libyan sea only 300 meters away. Agia Galini village is located on the southeast coast of Rethymnon prefecture, in the municipality of Agios Vasilios on the island of Crete, Greece. Crete island is known for its excellent climate. Moreover, Agia Galini has one of the best microclimates on Crete, mild throughout the year and the sun shines every day even in the middle of winter. With a wonderful and diverse surrounding natural environment, it is an ideal destination for an outdoorsy-type of vacation.

The Village

About the village

The village is built amphitheatrically into the surrounding hills near the mouth of the River Platys or Amarianos. The houses have a panoramic view over Messara bay and the Libyan Sea. The permanent population is about 600 people and in the summer season it usually increases to over 2000. Tourism, agriculture and fishing are the main occupations for the inhabitants. Agia Galini retains a balance between being a traditional fishing village and a modern touristic resort. While it offers all modern amenities to its visitors, they can still feel like they are visiting a Cretan village and not a standardised resort.

A convenient vacation base

Placed conveniently in the middle of Crete (55 km from Rethymnon and about 68 km from Heraklion) Agia Galini is well suited to be the base for daily excursions. Near Agia Galini there are plenty of points of interest such archaeological sites (e.g Phaistos, Gortyna, Apodoulou), wonderful beaches (e.g Agios Georgios, Agios Pavlos, Preveli Palm beach, Triopetra), traditional villages (e.g Melambes, Apodoulou, Nithavri), religious sites (e.g Preveli Monastery, Odigitria Monastery), hiking starting points and many more.
